Principal’s Report
1428/ 2007

We are living in an era in which the forces of Bātil, both external and internal, are conspiring to exterminate our Dīn. We, the ‘Ulamā, whom Allāh I has blessed with the ‘Ulūm of Nubuwwat, are required to act as buttresses to these sinister forces of Bātil.

The external forces of Bātil have, from time immemorial, always been at loggerheads with the Haq of Dīn. However, in the recent past, forces from within are conniving with pro-secular modernists to contaminate this pristine and pure Sharīah, which came down directly from Allāh I to the Mubārak heart of Rasūlullāh r and then transferred to the Sahābah qã“ã[Á?y and this continued until it has finally reached the Ulama whom Allāh I has bestowed with the true understanding of Dīn.

Understanding Din is not confined to the perusal of books or self-study but rather the true understanding of Dīn stems from spiritual guidance and the transmission of this knowledge of Nubuwwat from heart to heart. That heart which Allāh I has chosen for the guidance of mankind is then filled with goodness, understanding and penetrative insight into Sharī matters. It is these hearts that make those ‘Ulama who stand up against these external and internal forces and such ‘Ulamā-Rabbāniyyīn do not cave in to any threat whatsoever.

Allāh I mentions: “They strive in the path of Allāh I and they do not fear the condemnation of the critiques. And this is the grace of Allāh I which He awards to whomsoever He desires.”

This favour of steadfastness bestowed upon the ‘Ulamā by Allāh I should not be viewed as though these ‘Ulamā are inflexible and uncompromising. Ulama are always taught through the teachings of Rasūlullāh r not to be abnormal nor subnormal extremists in matters of Dīn and dunyā. The true Ulamā have assumed the path of moderation within the confines of Shariah. However, amongst certain ‘Ulamā and some self-taught individuals of today there is a perception that these aforementioned Ulama have undertaken the path of extremism, radicalism and fanaticism. This is a total slander against those Ulama who undertook to stand the test of the time.

A great Alim has mentioned that the similitude of Darul-Uloom Deoband is that of a mountain and the similitude of those who ‘Ulamā who cave in to outside pressure is that of sheep. The sheep comes to the mountain and bangs his head against it in an attempt to ram it aside. The sheep loses its head but the mountain remains resolutely unyielding. Today’s so called self-taught scholars and those who capitulate to their line of thinking are like the sheep. Allāh I mentions in the Qurān: “We will hurl Haq onto Bātil and it will rupture the brains of Bātil.”

The differences of our Akābir of Deoband did not deter them from engaging in healthy relationships with their peers. They assisted one another in common issues and always reprimanded their disciples who spoke ill of their Akābir’s differences. On one occasion, one of the Murīds of Hadrat Thānwī ¹À¬ã[»°ny spoke ill of Hadrat Madanī ¹À¬ã[»°ny in the Majlis of Hadrat Thāwī ¹À¬ã[»°ny. Hadrat Thānwī ¹À¬ã[»°ny severely admonished this Murīd to this extent that he commanded him to leave the Khānqāh and to return only after Hadrat Madnī had forgiven him. Thereafter, this Murīd returned informing Hadrat Thānwī that Hadrat Madnī ¹À¬ã[»°ny has forgiven him. Hadrat Thānwī ¹À¬ã[»°ny did not accept this verbal apology and commanded him to present a written apology from Hadrat Madanī ¹À¬ã[»°ny. The Murīd then returned to Hadrat Madanī ¹À¬ã[»°ny and explained his predicament. Hadrat Thānwī accepted his Murīd’s apology only after Hadrat Madanī ¹À¬ã[»°ny wrote out a letter forgiving this Murīd. This incident clearly shows that regardless of their personal differences, our seniors did not tolerate derogative and unfounded allegations against one another.

We make Du‘ā that Allāh I cleanse the atmosphere of false perceptions, misrepresentation and deception. May Allāh I protect Madrasah Inaamiyyah and all Dīnī institutes and all their departments, be it the Darul-Iftā, Dārul-Ishāt, Administration etc. from such elements who are bent on discrediting such Dīnī institutions and Ulama. May Allāh I guide such people, open up their narrow hearts and minds to see and visualize that these custodians of Dīn are entrusted with the protection of His Dīn.

This year 1427/8 2007

By the grace of Allāh Ta‘ālā. the Madrasah has completed its 13th academic year. It is with great joy and happiness and keeping our sight on the power and Qudrat of Allāh Ta‘ālā and the assistance of many a well-wishers and the dedicated efforts of my Asātizah, that I announce today the Madrasah’s sixth group of students to graduate as ‘Ulamā, Qurā and Muftis. May Allāh Ta‘ālā accept our efforts and may we be grateful to Him so that he may increase us in our Nemats. Âmīn.

Alhamdulillah, two major building projects were undertaken this year. To meet the demands of our increasing student roll, a new floor was added to the existing boarding block. The roof of the old block was removed and a new floor was added with eight additional dormitories. A new Dārul-Qurān block is currently under construction. This bottom floor of this block will consist of the Dārul-Hadīth for the final year students and additional classrooms for the Alim classes because the first and second year is made up of two divisions. The upper floor will consist of the Dārul-Qurān for the Hifz Classes, a Dārut-Tajweed for the Qirāt department and a Mashwarah and staff hall.

The academic year

The academic year commenced on 24th Zul-Hijjah 1427 / 14th January 2007 and ended on 28th Zul-Hijjah 1428 / 9th December 2007 for the annual holidays. Madrasah will re-open on 29th of Zul-Hijjah 1428/ 7th January 2008, Inshā Allāh.

Graduates

Alhamdulillāh, 17 students have completed their Hifz this year. This brings to 137 the number of students who have completed their Hifzul-Qurān. 17 are graduating as ‘Ulamā. This brings to 48 who have thus far graduated as ‘Ulamā from our institution. Furthermore, 4 Ulamā have qualified as Muftīs, thus bringing the total to 6.

2 Qurā are graduating this year. This brings to 17 the number of students who have completed their Qirāt course.

 Tarbiyat

Students continue to receive this vital aspect of education and stress is placed on their Tarbiyah (spiritual enhancement) on the lines of `Ibādāt, M`amūlāt, Huqūq and Âdāb. In this regard, a spiritual Majlis is conducted daily after ‘Asar by Maulana Emraan Vawda whose spiritual link is with Hājee Fārouq Sheb ¹À¬ã[»°ny. And after Fajr Salāh words of guidance and importance of Zikr are offered to the students by Muftī Ebrahim Desai Sāhib, Khalifah of Hadrat Muftī Mahmood Hasan Sāhib Gangohi ¹À¬ã[»°ny. After, Fajr Salāh, students together with some Ustāds make their way to the Khānqāh room for Zikr. Words of advice are also delivered by visiting `Ulamā and Jamāts whenever the opportunity arises.

Students go out regularly in Jamāt for the weekend with the Asātizah. The importance and necessity of going out in Jamāt cannot be stressed enough, as amongst other benefits, the students Tarbiyah is made and it dawns upon them what the needs of the Ummah are and in what direction their efforts and energies should be directed.

A Jamaat of graduating students will be going in the path of Allāh Ta‘ālā for one year. Inshā Allāh. Alhamdulillah, last year’s graduates have just returned from their one year from India and Bangladesh.

Allāh I accept these students who are going and those who have returned and all of us for the Khidmat of his Dīn with ease and security. Âmīn.

Imtihaan

The Asātizah of the Madrasah conducted written examinations. Two exams are held for the Hifz classes: at mid-year and at the end of the year. Three exams are held for the Arabic `Âlim classes.

Alhamdulillah, most of the students have passed the final examination. For those who have done well in their exams, we commend you on your hard work and to those who have not done well, we request you to work harder in the forthcoming year, And for those who have failed, my advice to you is that that you have not really failed. You still have a chance to refocus, dedicate and turn to Allāh I for assistance for the coming year. You are repeating the year because it is to your own benefit. Your failure is not a complete disaster because after every failure there is hope.

Maktab

Alhamdulillāh, Maktab Classes for the local children were efficiently conducted by Maulānā Imraan Vaid Sāhib under the auspices of the Madrasah.

Dārul Iftā

Alhamdulillā, the Dārul Iftā has flourished under the excellent supervision of Muftī Ebrahim Desai Sāhib.

This year, the Dārul Iftā has attended to approximately 4198 queries. These include questions received on the Internet on the Al-Balaagh, Ask-Imam and Al-Inaam sites and also includes telephonic and fax queries.

The Al-Mahmood bi-monthly is also published by the Dārul Iftā. This is a journal dealing with contemporary issues in a question and answer format.

The Dārul Iftā receives a number of telephonic queries daily between 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. The Dārul-Iftā has handled 10 major mediation and arbitration cases and 25 marital disputes. It has also engaged with various financial institutions and had a number of meetings with various people and organisations throughout the year. May Allāh I accept all the endeavours of all the Muftiyāne-Kirām and the students of the Iftā department in serving the community. May Allāh I crown their efforts with His pleasure. Âmīn.

Al-In`ām Newsletter

The Madrasah publishes a newsletter called “Al-In`ām” every quarter. Asātizah and students contribute articles to the newsletter. The newsletter is also intended to sharpen the students’ journalistic skills. This department is handled by Maulanā Ebrahim Kadwa Sāhib. Ulama-Kirām and Dīnī students are requested to contribute towards this newsletter. You may contact Maulānā Ebrāhim Kadwa at our publications department.

Finance and Administration

The administration of the Madrasah continues to be run with Mashwarah. There were no major problems during the year and any minor problems that did arise were resolved with the interest of the Madrasah at heart. The final decision in all matters, however, will rest with the `Ulamā and members of the Shurā.

The Balance Sheet and Income and Expenditure Statements are available for inspection to any bona fide persons at our auditor’s offices, Salejee, Kadwa and Company in Durban. Their details may be obtained from our Madrasah offices by contacting Muft Muhammad Kadwa.

Recreational Facilities

The Madrasah has provided various recreational facilities for the students. These include gym facilities, table tennis, volleyball, soccer, basketball and tennis. The students make good use of these facilities.

Constructive criticism and Sincere suggestions

We are open to constructive criticism. No person is free of any shortcomings. We would happily accept sincere suggestions to improve the smooth running of this institution. Hadrat Maulānā Ināmul-Hasan Sāhib used to mention that anyone who criticises you, firstly see within yourself whether you are guilty of the claim and if it is such, then rectify that ill. And thank that person for bringing that to your notice. And if that claim is untrue, mischievous and spreading misconception, division, misrepresentation, such people you leave them to Allāh I. And continue with your objective and increase your dedication and sacrifices and turn your gaze towards Allāh I in supplication.

Anjuman

An Anjuman is held every Saturday at the Madrasah, which has to be attended to by all students and Ustāds. In this programme, students are prepared to recite Qirāt, Nazams and equipped with techniques in the presentation of lectures.

Kitāb & Tape Library

Alhamdulillāh, the Madrasah has a fully-operational Kitāb and tape library. Alhamdulillah, a few generous people have contributed towards purchasing of books. May Allāh I reward them. However, we do require more Kitābs for the library. You may forward your contributions to the Madrasah and this will also be Sadqae-Jāriyah for you. This department is run under the supervision of Maulānā Muhammad Abbasomar Sāhib. Students and Ustāds are making good use of these facilities.

The library presently has over two thousand titles of books.

The Darul-Iftā has an independent library for the benefit of the Iftā students and the Muftiyān.

Sponsor a Student

We encourage each and every Muslim to make his son a Hāfiz and ‘Âlim. If for some reason, this is not possible, the least one can do is to sponsor a student of Dīn. Any person wishing to participate in this noble scheme may contact the Madrasah. The cost of sponsoring a student is R1000.00 per month (app. 150 U.S. Dollars). A donor may also choose to pay part of the student’s monthly fee.

It is essential to note that the Madrasah has no official collectors. If any person does present the name of our institution, kindly inform us.

It has come to our attention that certain people are collecting funds for the Madrasah.

Our current academic year commenced with 196 students, including 65 foreign students from Philippines, Malaysia, Honk Kong, Canada, England, U.S.A., Germany, India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Tanzania, Lesotho, Zambia and Comoros.
