TASAWWUF
AND TAZKIYAH NAFS (SELF-REFORMATION)
Sufism is a process of spiritual upliftment. It is a way of reforming oneself and attaining closeness to Allah Ta’ala. Spiritual upliftment, reformation and attaining closeness to Allah are orders replete in the Qur’aan.
You will find on these pages Sufism related information.
- Iethaar
Similarly with Muslims: Yes... Well... It may be said that they are Muslims.
Even though most aspects of Islamic teachings are not to be found in them, and
more un-Islamic features are found, even so, one concedes that they are Muslims.
What type of Muslims...? Anyhow, they are still Muslims. Kindly note the tone of
my voice in my making these remarks. Do you understand what I am trying to
convey?
- The Tricks of Shaytaan
And if you were not created and destined for bliss, then in no way Allah will
punish you for acts of obedience. These acts of obedience will not harm you. For
to be entered into the fire while you are obedient to Allah is more precious to
you than you being entered into the fire while you are disobedient.
- Zikrullah [for the contentment of the heart and
peace of mind]
“When I sit in the remembrance of Allah Ta’ala, independent of all others, then I find my humble mat like the throne of
Hazrat Suleiman (A.S.). I have heard of people living in air-conditioned homes,
people owning millions commit suicide. I have not heard of a single Wali of
Allah committing suicide. Is this not sufficient proof that the shadow of the
Mercy of Allah remains over the hearts of his friends making their hearts ‘grief
proof’
- Ayyuhal Walad (O` Young Man)
IT is necessary for your words and your deeds to comply with
the sacred law for without the law knowledge and action is an error. And it behoves
you not to be deceived by the escapades and antics of the charlatan sufis. The
true spiritual journey of the Sufi Path is not the path of these pretenders
- The Station of al-Khawf (fear for Allah)
The Al-Khawf or fear station is one of the most splendid
stations of the road and the most beneficial to the heart. It is also
mandatory upon everyone. Allah said, "So fear them not, but fear Me, if you
are believers." [3:175],
- Tariqat (by Sheikhul Hadith Ml. Zakariyya Saheb)
People have objections on many actions of the sufis. Although the bai’at is
not necessary — according to the sufis — it is proven from the Qur’aan and
hadith.
- A Robber's Advice
The leader of the robbers said, "What you have just said fills me with great
sorrow and regret. Young lad! Is your 'ilm on pieces of paper when it should
have been in your heart? Papers can get lost. Papers can be destroyed by fire,
become parched by the sun, get eaten by moths, become damaged with damp, etc.,
etc. You are dependent on papers? It fills me with great pity. Your 'ilm should
be in your heart! Be that as it may, your papers will be returned."
- Allah Ta'ala's Love and Compassion
As if to say, "Oh dear! You have debased yourself somewhat. So, shall We stop
advising you?" Just see how lovingly it is put! That individual with a soft
heart, one who has even the slightest spark of muhabbat for Zate Bari Ta'ala,
should break down into tears on hearing this. Or should he not? How
excellent is not Your mercy!
- Refuge of the Brokenhearted
' But do not say that Allah has reduced you to
poverty, turned the world against you, abandoned, maligned or persecuted
you, did not assign the portion of earthly pleasures due to you, or did not
bestow honour and fame
upon you. Nor is it proper for you to complain that Allah has granted his
favours to others
- Advice on Getting Married
Do not look just at the eyes, whether she has big, beautiful eyes or not! How
will you know whether her heart is big or small? I am pointing this out because
youngsters look merely at the face: What are her eyes like? What is her
complexion like? But completely unconcerned about what her inside is like!
- Distinctive Position of Muslims
- Prescriptions for Barakah in Rizq
[sustenance]
The attaining of rizq is not dependant on one's
brilliance or intelligence, otherwise the intelligent should have been more
wealthier than those who have less intelligence.
- Dispraise of Abominable Acts
Do not make excessive requests and do not ask many
questions. By the word `Kathrah'
(excessive) we may understand that it is permissible to make a minor request or
ask a simple question. But, bear in mind that by little it will not mean that it
is permissible to make a request for one or two cents and prohibited for more
than that, or there is no harm in asking a simple mas-alah and that alot of
questions are prohibited.
- Wasiyyat of Hadhratjee Moulana
Maseehullah Khan Saheb
Cleansing of the nafs and rectification of the nafs should be
an obsession (dhun); and the dhiyan of Allah Ta'ala: What has been outlined is
the whole summary, the essence, of Tasawwuf. This is sufficient. Continually act
on it. These are the noble statements of my murshid Hakim-al-Ummat mujaddid-al-
millat, Maulana Mohammed Ashraf Ali sahib Thanwi (R.A.)
- Bay'at in Shari'ah
One needs a teacher even for learning how to perform outward religious requirements with their accompanying problems. Religious actions can go wrong without the direction of a teacher. But there is a greater need for a teacher for acquiring the knowledge of and acting upon spiritual and hearty actions some of which are compulsory injunctions, some semi-compulsory ones. Technically the teacher of these spiritual branches of knowledge is called MURSHID (spiritual guide).
- Snares of Deception
A man should have not only emotional attachment to Islam: he should also hate all un-Islamic philosophies, thoughts and ideals. As a matter of fact, the Qur’aan expresses at numerous places its hatred for the devil and the standard bearers of falsehood and ignorance before giving a call to pin one’s faith in God.
- Essence of the Ruh of Sulook -
by Ml. Maseehullah Khan Saheb
The reality of mujahadah is this that one should refrain from
sin completely by resisting and opposing the nafs, and this resisting and
opposing the nafs is wajib and fardh. Also, one should oppose the nafs to a
lesser extent in what is mubah, and here resisting and opposing the nafs is
mustahabb
